~The Tale of 2 Chairs, Twin Sisters :)

Jumat, 28 September 2007

Isn't it fascinating when you see twins how they can start out life looking so identical but then as they age, each one takes on a different personality and appearance.

Ah, this is exactly what happen happen to our twins, the Chair Girls. It also could have been titled the "Ugly Duckling" but neither of them wish to be compared to a duck and didn't understand it was really a swan. Oh well.
Wandering into this thrift store is not one of my favorite things. And even though I've complained about such trips, I have to admit I have saved a few forlorn little gems from this place. So through the crowds of women checking out the clothing I go, all the way to the back. I really need a cheap chair.

And what do I see, oh a set of uglies! They were French inspired, but they were "inexpensive" to began with and had truly seen better days. In the first photo up there, you can see there was work to do to even get one in the house!

I only needed one is what I thought at the time. I kindly paid them the price of $20 that they had on all 3 chairs, and told them to just keep the other two and took the best one and put it in the car. Then I thought better of my decision and decided maybe down the road I could fix the second one as well. The third, sorry there was no hope for it.

The first one was painted creamy white with accents of the taupe color that I used in the master bedroom at that time. It was also aged and antiqued with a glaze of raw umber. There was a lot of work with a small artist's brush. It makes a huge difference in your finished piece if you can do this when there is some carving to play with.

The second chair went black, of course. My two different loves, light furniture and black. Both were recovered in medallion toile fabrics and with different kinds of trim. Although I still love them both, the lighter medallion print is not one I'm using anymore in any of the rooms. I guess I'll have to strip it and redo it one day soon.

In the close ups, you can see some of the ways the chairs became transformed. Light sanding on the black one showing the wood along edges.
I always use Krylon Satin spray paint. I've found that it is the best for me.
The one that says dries in 12 mins. or something like that. Great paint.

The lighter colored chair got the opposite treatment of adding the darker colors in the deeper areas for aging, and the taupe color was added to the flat area on the back.

~Wishing you all a Wonderful Weekend!

As always, thanks for coming by and to all who take the time to say hi, it's so nice to "see" you!

The lovely little one holding the book is Sweet Husband's Grandmother.
When do you decorate for Halloween?
I don't really get things out until Oct 1.
But if I'm making things, I am into it sooner. Which means I'll be doing Christmas in Oct! Oh my....
It's a lovely day to work on art, and get things in the mail. Looks like rain again. Was it me who was complaining about no rain? Not this month.
Have a Great Day!

~Happy Monday, Corners of My Home

Senin, 24 September 2007

The light often dances so playfully on the fireplace in the family room, although this is the room which gets the least light. Maybe that's why I notice how amazing the light is when it caresses the curves and carvings.

We built this fireplace when we added the den/family room. I've always loved it, but much more so since I've added the tumbled marble mosaic tiles. It wasn't too tough, we had tiled before. Hubby cuts whatever I need, I figure it out and do the dirty work. We are a great team. Mostly because he is so kind and easy going. And he loves do work on things with me.

Maybe we notice light more when it shines where there is a lack of light. I wonder about this in the world today. But I continue to hope that more light shines stronger and brighter, and that we nurture and notice the light and not the darkness.

Happy Monday to all who travel through. Thank you for stopping by.

Oh y'all are good! I only thought of one name that any of you mentioned and I missed part of that one! So thank you for all the ideas. I love them all, and I hope the little family will play along and chose one that is perfect. But they are all perfect to me!

Here is a picture of the little Give Away for helping with the name.

Each tag will have my 2007 Boo Sign Design and then the other elements will change since they are each handmade. I'm working on a few of the Boo Banner Hangings and they will be in the shop soon.

~It's a BOOtiful Day in the Neighborhood

Senin, 10 September 2007

Oh there are many BOOtiful days yet to come! I think it's early for Halloween thinking, but you have to start early if you are making things.

**SOLD**

Thank You!

(Clicking on the Picture takes you to Etsy.)

My DD has been a Boo almost since the day she was born. So at Halloween time we love to find Boo things. Here's a cute little Boo Wall/Door Decor with a dangling Ghost. A little holiday preview of things to come in the shop. But it's one of those things that takes way more time than you think it would. So I'm not sure how many different will show up. I still want to do a few black and white without too much orange.

And it's another way to use the Handmade Paper Flowers!

~Happy Wednesday!

I love Aqua Blue these days. It might not quite make it into my home decor, but I love making arty things using that color right now.

How do they do it??? I sometimes follow that sweet Blog Trail and find someone who is running an online shop, or working inside/outside their home, and being Mommy, Wife, etc., etc. It's kind of a miracle that you just do whatever you need to do and never realize how much you are doing until later. Years later, sometimes!

So compared to some of these ladies, I have no excuse. But here it is another middle of the week and no post at all around here!

Congrats to my dear friend Kim *Daisy Cottage on the picture of her wonderful home in Romantic Homes, Sept issue. I'm looking forward to a big spread in a magazine someday. Soon I hope.

I think it was sweet Pat *Back Porch Musings who was wooing me with the promise of Autumn and cooler temperatures. Not yet down here, but still there is a very far off gentle breeze today that makes it seem possible that it will cool down a bit, just like it does every year.

And a little note to Rhoda *Southern Hospitality . Thanks for talking me into going to Savannah. We so loved this city. The river front area was OK, but it was the downtown with squares and old house that was so wonderful! It has changed dramatically over the last 15 years, and quite a bit over the last 5. We walked all over, at night, and it was pretty safe feeling. The Savannah Art School has really changed the town for the better. I'll get around to a little writing about it. But thanks for giving me the push to stop over there.

Sweet Ladies ( and one gent if the Pistol comes by :)
thank you always for stopping by and leaving your notes. Whenever I stop running around, I try to get by to visit you all, because that's the fun part of Blog Land isn't it?!
