~ Bedroom Inspiration - Pretty Red Chest Style Nightstands

Senin, 21 Mei 2012

Aren't those chests pretty as nightstands? How easy it would be to make something just as stunning by painting a small chest or dresser that you were lucky enough to find at a thrift store or garage sale. This is such a charming bedroom created for a fundraiser showhouse. Simple design, no excess accessories. In our bedroom we have larger chests like these to help with the lack of storage. Works out really well.

~ Blue Bedroom Inspiration

Senin, 26 Juli 2010

What a week. I haven't been this dirty every single day in a long time. Or this tired. We've been digging and planting, digging and planting for days. After several trips for plants, more plants, mulch and sod, the backyard is looking better. I just have to remember that it's a big job, and it can't be done in a week. Or even in a month, or two.

One thing for sure, you appreciate a nice comfortable bed at the end of long day of digging. And if it's in a beautiful room, it is even better.

Nothing new happening inside these days. And the bedroom is way down the list of things to do. However, these pictures just popped up from my old files. Thought I'd share them.

I might not be much a blue person, but this bedroom really draws me to it. There are things I'd change, but the feeling is so soothing, even though there is not blue bedroom in my future.

As with most showhouse rooms, this one doesn't actually look lived in. But the architecture and colors are still nice inspiration.

~ Decorating The Bedroom, Blue & Yellow And.....

Kamis, 01 Juli 2010

There's a reason that the combination of blue and yellow never goes out of style. It's simply beautiful. I love seeing it in other homes, even though I don't use it myself. It is lovely treat when to see it used skillfully in someone's home.

I have a love for bed crowns/coronas. This one is a beauty, but might be a bit ornate for me these days.

Since I have a window behind my bed, I'm thinking that would work extremely well. And it reflects other moldings and trims in the house.

And, then there is a simple neutral palette.

Our bedroom used to have the colors above. It was the same for a few years, then I got that itch for change, and the room was redone in golds and white. Now this previous color scheme looks very inviting all over again. It might be another year before I get around to redoing the bedroom. My to-do list is very, very long. Maybe after the dust settles in the backyard.

~ Study of White, Tell Me It's Friday

Jumat, 13 Februari 2009

It's Friday!!

When I was in school studying art, I loved drawing simple white draped fabrics. I still love white. It keeps calling me back again. Do you long for white that is aged, crumbling and peeling? It's so beautiful. If I can't have that, I'll take a nice painted antiqued finish. Off white, with touches of umbers and taupes, and a dash of sienna.

See ya' soon.

~ Fabulous Friday, Happiness, Grisaille

Jumat, 30 Januari 2009

Every time I pick up a paint brush, it makes me happy. No matter what I'm doing, painting a piece of furniture, redoing a small accessory or starting on a canvas, painting makes me happy. Is there something like that just makes you happy? Somewhere I read about writing a list of things that make you happy. It's a good way to get to know yourself. I found some funny things on it years ago. And now there are new things on the list, like petting puppy or having him sit in his chair beside me while I post a note here.

The armoire in our bedroom is another favorite project. The look is grisaille, monochromatic in shades of taupes, umbers, and a touch of sienna. It was something that sweet husband and I worked on together, he helped me attach the top piece, and then I had the joy of having a paint brush in my hands for a few days.

It wasn't all joyful though. While painting it, I didn't like the way it was going, and I tried to remove some of what I had just done. But the paint did not want to come off, not all together anyway. Fortunately I stood back and realized that it was turning out just the way I wanted it to. It looks like the surface developed over time. The process was just different than what I had planned. Funny how that happens.

(Grisaille (grɪʼzaɪ, -ʼzeɪl; French: gris, grey, French pronunciation: /ɡʁi.zaj/) is a term for painting executed entirely in monochrome, usually in shades of grey or brown... Wikipedia.)

Hope you have a great weekend!
